Importing Ads and Keywords
Objective: Learn how to import ads and keywords into adCenter.
Introduction
You can import your ads—complete with the ad title, ad text, display URL (uniform
resource locator), and destination URL, for all ads in an ad group—into Microsoft
adCenter from other online advertising programs.

Importing Ads
Complete the following steps to import ads using a Microsoft Office Excel file or
comma-separated-values (CSV) file.
- Click the Campaigns tab.
- On the Select a campaign page, click the campaign that includes
the ad group you want to import ads into.
- On the Select an ad group page, click the ad group that you want
to import the ads into.
- Click the Ads tab.

- If this is a Draft ad group, enter campaign and ad group settings and click
Continue.
- At the top of the table, click Import ads.
- If you are using the template, cl ick Excel or CSV,
type or copy data into the templ ate, and save the file.

If you are exporting ad information from another online advertising program, ensure
the file contains the same types of data in the same order as shown in the templates.
- Click Import file.
- In the Choose file dialog box, select the file, and then click
Open.
- The ads that are in the template are added to the table.

Troubleshooting: Importing Ads
If you are having trouble importing ads, here are a few suggestions:
- Make sure the data is in the correct order. If you downloaded information
from another online advertising program, copy the information into the template,
save it, and then import the saved file.
- Make sure the file is closed before you try to import it.
- Set your web browser to allow pop-up windows. For more information,
see Help for your web browser.
- Make sure the data you import meets character limits:
- Ad title must not exceed 25 characters
- Ad text must not exceed 70 characters
- Display URL must not exceed 35 characters
- Destination URL must not exceed 1022 characters

Importing Keywords
You can also easily import your keywords from other online advertising programs.
By using a Microsoft Office Excel file or
comma-separated values (CSV) file, you can import keywords—complete
with associated
bids ,
dynamic text , and
negative keywords—into a Microsoft adCenter ad group. The
key to importing keywords is to ensure that the file you are importing contains
the relevant data. Complete the following steps to import keywords:
- Click the Campaigns tab.
- On the Select a campaign page, click the campaign that includes
the ad group you want to import keywords into.
- On the Select an ad group page, click the ad group to import the
keywords into.
- On the Keywords tab, click Edit keywords.
- At the top of the table, click Import keywords.
- If you are using the template, click Excel or CSV,
type or copy data into the template, and save the file.

If you are exporting keyword information from another online advertising program,
ensure the file contains the same types of data in the same order as shown in the
templates.
- Click Import file.
- In the Choose file dialog box, select the file, and then click
Open.
- The keywords, bids, dynamic text, and negative keywords that are in the file are
added to the table. Keywords are added to the table in alphabetical order.

- Each keyword or phrase must not exceed 100 characters
- Dynamic text keywords must not exceed 70 characters
- Negative keywords must not exceed 1,022 characters total
- Bids must be greater than the minimum bid of .05.
